Barbara Kleinow, daughter of Mr and Mrs Ray Kleinow, drew the winning ticket in a local merchants promotion event titled Wins dishwasher Committee. The promotion offered prizes through participating shops.
From the official docket of justice of the peace C F Shimanek no new cases were entered last week. A correction states Ronald Luensman of Monticello was found not guilty of beer possession as a minor, while Donald Luensman a U S Marine in Vietnam was previously cited.
Gary Grom cited for improper parking. Michael P. Chapman cited for failure to have vehicle under control. Glenn Pyatt cited for no valid license and possession of beer as a minor. Fines listed: $10 for license issue, $25 for beer.
The council moves to enforce no parking on North Cedar from Second to Ninth streets and to seek funding for resurfacing Highway 38 from Main to Second. Surface work on First Street and North Cedar to Second is eyed this year with state highway reimbursement proposed.
An appeal from an Iowa Industrial Commission decision was filed May 12 in Jones county district court by Howard DeShaw Hopkinton against Energy Manufacturing Co Monticello and Federated Mutual Insurance Co. DeShaw claims permanent injury from lifting cylinders on July 20 1966 and seeks additional compensation after 11 weeks of benefits plus medical costs were paid.
Monticello High School band will travel to Winnipeg Canada in June to participate in Manisphere 99 a concert and competitive event with ensembles from the U S and Canada The trip includes a major parade with over 250000 spectators funds raised by students and band parents with Ray Stumbaugh directing donations sought from contributors
Two people died in morning crashes near Anamosa and Martelle. Details on victims were not available at presstime. The Martelle by-pass crash happened around 6 a.m. and the second, about 7 45 a.m. near highways 151 and 1, involved a car and a Nash-Finch truck.
Thomas D. Topping, 16, of Monticello, was charged with failing to control after his 1960 Ford went through a fence on North Gill St at 12 15 a.m. Saturday. An April 30 incident is under investigation as police report. Ralph Zimmerman, of Monticello, struck a parked K and P Leasing Co. vehicle on West First St, causing damage to both cars including the Ford’s front right fender and the Oldsmobile’s rear bumper and taillight.
