Brown Thrasher Nature Notes From Northward Songster
The brown thrasher or brown thrash is a northern singer arriving in Iowa in mid April. It perches at dawn or dusk to sing clear notes, then flees to hedgerows. Its nest is twiggy and loosely built with eggs 3 to 5 pale buff and speckled. The bird is shy yet brave when defending young, diet includes insects and wild fruits, length 10 to 12 inches, reddish brown with white underparts and gray chin.
