Monticello music students win 40 first ratings at state contest
Monticello Community High School music students earned forty I ratings at the state competition held in DeWitt. Vocal instructor William Day and band director Ray Stumbaugh reported top solo marks for performers including Cindy Hanken Jana Rhatigan Lynda Hagen Mary Lou Gearhart Ed Goldsmith and more. Instrumental groups also received I ratings with the Brass sextet A featuring Nancy Folkers Pat Denton Karen King Coleen Naylor and others.

New 151 Bridge Near Monticello To Open May 15
The Maquoketa River bridge northeast of Monticello is slated to open around May 15, seven weeks ahead of the planned schedule. The 480 foot long, 30 foot wide structure replaces the former 320 by 20 foot span, with concrete approaches due by May 6 after a seven day curing period. Traffic has used a downtown detour since July last year.
