Oat Sowing Rates Affect Yields in Iowa Trials
Iowa experiments since 1942 show sowing more than 8 bushels per acre wastes seed with high germination oats. Burnett notes little gain between 10 and 12 pecks, recommending 3 bushels for maximum acre yield. Clinton oats yield best with 1–3 bushels, depending on seed supply and weed pressure. Early sowing yields higher bushel weight. delays past mid April reduce yield and weight across varieties Clinton Marion Tama Osage CT 4327.
