Monti High celebrated Billy Sloan the custodian for fifty years in March 1938 while students learned in physics about the heating plant and freshman beat juniors 34 to 0 in basketball. Subsequent years show student council advocacy, school events, plays, a Madrigal group, and staff activities through 1945 with clubs, awards, and music programs shaping school life.
Monti High juniors Margaret Ann Zimmerman Susan Stuhler Donna McCurdy and Raymond Rieniers named to Monti cello Chapter of National Honor Society. They received formal invitations last Friday as the local group, with seven seniors existing, two juniors previously elected and five seniors initiated. The four new members will be inducted at the spring Honor Society banquet.
The Future Teachers of America hosted a St Patrick’s Day dinner Thursday evening March 14 in the homemaking room to honor last year’s graduates. Four alumni attended funded by multiple popcorn ball sales held recently.
Elaine and Blaine are listed as outstanding Monti High students with multiple roles. Elaine served as IPA secretary treasurer and publicity crew member for the junior play while Blaine participates in Luther League and aims for Coe College. Helen Gerdes tops the page as a longtime cheerleader and reader dancer with 4-H ties and plans to attend Omaha trade school.
A Friday auditorium program recognized honor students for scholastic and extracurricular achievements. Awards went to top ribbon winners across classes, with football and basketball letters, honor society induction, and scholarship talks led by Irma Schoon. The event closed with a glee club performance and the national anthem.
