Monticello firemen were called to the Hoag Duster factory about 11 a.m. Monday to extinguish a fire that started in wood shavings near a lathe in the basement. The sprinkler system activated by the heat hampered the firemen as heavy smoke slowed efforts.
A heavy snowstorm on a snowpacked highway near Monticello caused a northbound Ford driven by Marion Raheenen to skid into a ditch and be struck by a Pontiac driven by Don Monk. No injuries reported. damage estimated at 300 dollars.
Names of 75 Jones county residents drawn for the petit jury list for the April May and June term of district court. Jurors report at 9 30 a m on April 5 with Ansel J Chapman as presiding judge.
County Supervisors in regular session authorized County Engineer Earl Beisell to contract with Traffic Marking Service of Stanhope for highway marking and striping at 6938.50 dollars.
