Charity on a Midnight Train Arouses Quiet Heroism
A Providence rider recalls a Newark style act of charity aboard a Boston bound midnight train. A rough stranger organizes fellow passengers to raise fare for a frightened foreigner who cannot speak English, paying his passage to New York and sparing him a worse fate. The anonymous donor publicly accepts thanks but is humbled as the grateful traveler bows.
