Jones County to Elect Two Directors for Board of Education
Two seats on the Jones county Board of Education will be decided this September as elections adjust to new Area II and Area IV districts. Incumbents Harry Ingwersen and Leslie Balster reside in Area II, while Area IV covers the Anamosa Community district. Nomination papers due 20 to 45 days before September 13. Terms updated to three years. board includes one at large member William Walters.

Buck Creek rock festival raid nets drugs and 100+ names
A late Saturday night raid near Buck Creek by ten area officers stopped a budding rock festival with about 350 people. Officials seized marijuana and hashish, drug weighing scales, pipes and pills believed to be LSD, not yet analyzed. One charge filed for intoxication and resisting, against Jerry Kiburz of Monticello, with more charges pending. Over 100 names handed to county attorney. About 150 cars, mostly from Jones county, with others from Delaware, Dubuque and several states. Ages ranged from juveniles to 55.

Rock festival raid traps 150 plus flee scene turmoil
Officers halted a secret rock festival on a 5 acre Phil King farm field after 750 participants were expected. Fire crews averted incidents as cars were locked in. Traffic ended by early morning with many fleeing into fields and 150 plus names taken. Grand jury actions followed.

Camper-trailer damaged in rural Wyoming accident
A camper-trailer damaged in an accident July 23 at 6 a.m. a mile east of Wyoming on highway 64 when swerving to avoid a curb caused a rollover into a ditch. No injuries or charges. Gary D. Courter trailer, towed by Sharon L. Courter, 22, Rock Island, cited loss of control. Deputy Jim Benter and Wyoming police investigated.

Minor damage from auto mishap on West 4th Street
Monticello police investigated a Thursday night incident at about 9 55 p m involving Steven F Paulsen 18 Scotch Grove backing from an alley and hitting a parked 1968 Plymouth causing about 80 dollars in damage. No charges were filed. The parked car was driven earlier by Debra Ann Dirks of Monticello.

Onslow Budget Hearing Set for August Ninth
The Onslow town council schedules a budget hearing at 8 p.m. August 9 in the council room. The proposed budget totals 33 290 dollars with 7 955 dollars to be raised by taxation. Funds are itemized by general street public safety sanitation municipal enterprise recreation utilities sewer rental road use tax liquor profit and other sources. Estimated taxes per 1000 assessed valuation would be 29.95 dollars under the proposal.
