Centennial events planned for Center Junction celebration
The Centennial committee in Center Junction meets weekly for the 100th birthday events. Alumni invitations are being sent, with a Saturday July 31 program of a style show, beard judging, parade with Ames mayor Stuart Smith as a judge, and Kiddies and Pet parade. A July 30 supper features a large volunteer crew and a sheet donation request.

Fire damages Stephen Motors wiring blamed
A Sunday afternoon fire at Stephen Motors caused an estimated 5500 in damage. Authorities say faulty wiring sparked the blaze which began above a barrel of naphtha. Firefighter John Pedersen suffered second degree burns while opening the rear overhead door. Showroom and shop areas were affected but four new cars in the showroom and other vehicles were saved or moved. The service department will reopen after cleaning and rewiring.

Center Junction Plans Centennial Celebration
Center Junction will mark its centennial July 30 31, the last of three Jones county towns to reach 100 years this month. Centennial committee members led by Ralph Martens Ann Martens Norma Anderson Gale Williams Maxine Von Spreecken Judy Mead and Mike Mead organized the event with long time volunteers John Gray Hans Hinrichsen Merle Husmann Keith Gray Leonard Serbousek John Moehl Keith Christensen Bill Osterkamp and Melvin Dirks. The committee has worked since its appointment last October.

Olin Beef Day on Saturday July 24 features a Jones county Beef Queen contest with six candidates and a garden club show at the old school gym. If the park is ready the event moves there otherwise it will be at Fred Hefflefinger’s farm with a 4 H show, garden tractor pull and a 3 PM beef barbecue open to the public.
