In Jones County magistrate court Conrad A. Meyer of Center Junction paid 25 and 50 dollar fines for disturbing the peace and backing a motor vehicle through an intersection. A list of speeding fines across several towns follows, with various penalties including license suspensions and small cash fines. one case involved a ten day jail sentence suspended for a year.
Monticello Ambulance Service reports a surge in volunteers after a public plea. President Chris Sasina says three responders now run on each call as many volunteers pursue advanced first aid and potential EMT certification next year with Cedar Rapids instructor James Usher leading the course.
Snow and ice packed roads contributed to a series of crashes around Anamosa and Martelle. Wayne Senne and Lawrence Larsen were in a Janesville Wisconsin truck incident when a snow plow cleared Highway 151 intersection. Another collision near Anamosa involved Lester Rickless and Pauline Twachtmann on County E-34. A stolen 1969 Plymouth damaged near Fairview trailer court and a Martelle collision between Ronald Parker and Merle Rickels caused major vehicle damage.
Winter weather kept Monticello in its grasp delivering up to four inches of fresh snow on Sunday December 5 starting before 2 p.m. and continuing through the day. The week saw a high of 28 degrees and a frigid minus 17 on Tuesday morning as Iowa records fell across the region.
