Monticello Schools Ready for 1800 Students Monday
Monticello schools will open Monday for about 1,800 pupils. Classes start at 8:45 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. New staff include John Sanders teaching junior high math and coaching wrestling and track, and Mrs. Steven Indekofer joining the art department. New aides are six named aides, with Sacred Heart Elementary adding Sisters Serena Slinger and Francois Duster plus Mrs. Bisinger and Mrs. Assumpta Glaser among others.

Utility funds show growth in Monticello revenues
Mon ticello utility collections rose by over 26000 in five years. Auditor reports water income 42189.11 and sewer rental 26913.17 last year. Two thirds of the 10000 increase since 1966 occurred in 1970 after July 1 rate hike. Parking meters income fell slightly in 1970 to 10120.98 from 11278.33 in 1969.

Fines Decline in Jones County in 1970 Audit
An auditor's release shows Jones county collected just over 19 000 dollars in county fines in 1970, down from 19 309.02 in 1969. The eight justices of the peace and the clerk of court handled 1 403 cases, with total fines reaching 19 309.02 as part of 36 157.91 received by the county treasurer. The school districts shared 22 732.04 of the funds, with Anamosa and Monticello receiving the largest allocations.
