Elaine Nielsen hosted the August 8 meeting at the Antioch Community building with demonstrations by Francis Sievers Barbara Paulsen Elaine Nielsen and Mary Jane Soper. The night included a wiener roast July 24 at Delbert Grafft's farm pond with Toni Grafft Catherine Monning Carole Grassfield and Mary Jane Soper in charge of food. The Jackson Wise Owls held its August 1 achievement show with Stella Crain and Ethel Hartman judging.
The Oxford Livewire Lassies held a gathering on August 8 at Leanne Barnhart’s residence with Leanne and others attending.
Carol Neff acted as hostesses as talks and demonstrations covered canning fruits and vegetables by Bonita Larkey and Garnet Hansen, freezing fruits and vegetables by Leanne Barnhart, and why preserve food by Arlette Oster.
Cass Corner Chums gathered at the Farm Bureau building on August 4. Janice Kula presented Cass Corner Chums and Janet Hartwig spoke on Ways of Using Vegetables in Our Diets. Janice Toenjes and Kathleen Houser led a team demonstration on Relish Tray preparation.
The Scotch Grove Sunshine Girls 4-H club met Friday August 19 at Judy McDonald's home. Mary Karen Paulsen Luella Ricklefs Ruth Ann Heiken and Suzanne Otten will lead the program titled Demonstrations for the Fair and Illustrated Talks.
Prairieburg 4 H club the Prairie Panthers met August 9 at the parish hall with President Edward Staton presiding. Nineteen members and one guest answered roll with My Favorite Tractor. They planned the annual hayride for Thursday September 8 meeting at Billy Uhlenkamp’s wagons depart 7 45 p m with Clarence Goedken chosen for pig scramble and Loias Soppe as alternate.
The Clay Busy Bee club held a local achievement show with demonstrations by Roseann Larkey Jerilyn Jansen on cold drinks and Shirley Haker Joyce Hinrichs on cake making. Bercius Bickford Evelyn Cress presented ice box cookies which were chosen for the fair as finished products were judged.
At the fair Alice Larkey led with blues on yeast and quick breads and angel food cake. Roseann Larkey Jerilyn Jansen and Bercius Bickford earned reds and whites for jams vegetables and pickles as refreshments were served.
Wayne Willing Workers staged an achievement show on July 27 at Wayne Center School. Nine demonstration teams showcased topics including make and freeze sandwiches and salads. Judges were Mrs. Donald Clark Florence Carith ers Mrs. Paul Gerdes and Helen Tucker.
The Lovell Happy Helpers observed butter wrapping and ice cream making on August 19 at the Monticello creamery. Attendees included Mrs. Frank Schneiter, Mrs. Don Clark, Cathy Craig, Judy, Janice and Jennifer Schneider, Sharon Schneiter, Mary Ann and Bonnie Buol, Beverly Beh rends, Virginia Tuetken, Dixie and Shirley Hanken, Verna Merrit, Carol Clark, Joyce Appleby, Mary Ellen Slife and Lois Cass. The fair poster will be prepared by Verna Merritt, Cathy Craig and Janice Schneider.
The Wyoming 49ers 4 H club held an achievement day program on Aug 9 in Memorial hall with hosts Mrs Kermit Usher and Mrs Dorothy Hamilton. Judges were Miss Tucker, Florence Carthers and Pauline Reade. Susie Millsap was chosen to represent the club at the Jones County fair with Sharon Countryman as alternate. Members entered two or more baked goods with awards including cookies breads and cakes. Junior team demonstrations featured relish plate muffin making and lunch packing. Everyone reads the Express.
Four members of the Lutheran Women's Guild of St Matthew Lutheran Church attended the district convention of the Women's Missionary Federation auxiliary of the American Lutheran Church at Wartburg College in Waverly on August 16 and 17. The group was honored at a tea in Centennial hall lounge funded by the foundation's furnishings. Mrs Arnold Schlueter of Monticello was elected district chairman of the junior mission band department.
A Scotch Grove woman, Mrs. R. A. Naylor, wins a Sealy Posturepedic contest prize for a winning limerick entered via Schumacher Furniture store Monti cello. Her entry becomes eligible for one of three grand national awards. First prize options include a $20,000 cash windfall or $100 a month for life backed by a North American policy.
The second grand prize offers a two week all expense vacation for two in Paris with $300 spending money and air travel via TWA Constellation. The third prize awarded is a 1955 Packard Caribbean convertible.
Dixie Jean Hanken of Monticello has been accepted as a junior member of the Holstein-Friesian Association of America Brattleboro VI. Eligibility came from satisfactory dairy club work with registered Holsteins and a recommendation by county extension director Joe E Legg.
