Great Jones County Fair Opens For 115th Run In Monticello
The 115th Great Jones County Fair begins Tuesday at Monticello fairgrounds, running five days with top stars, 4 H and FFA shows, Fat Steer exhibit, floral hall, races, and nightly teenage dances. Iowa Colt Stakes with a $1000 purse debuts Thursday. 1967 cars Buick LeSabre Plymouth Barracuda Camaro Mercury Cougar awarded by drawings, winners choose cars on successive nights. Monday includes early judging and floral entries deadline. County auditors send tax affidavit to Jones county taxpayers
About 6000 Jones county residents will receive an affidavit from county auditor Helen Murray around September 1. The form relates to new personal property tax credit rules and could save some taxpayers money. The affidavit requests return by mail and notes a $2,500 exemption under House File 686 sections 41 through 45. Instructions will accompany the form.

Board Lets Bid for Road Rock in Rome Township
DeWees Potthoff stone company of Marion submitted the low bid of 1.55 dollars per ton for rock on a road project in Rome township after a Tuesday letting at the Jones county board of supervisors meeting. Only other bid came from B. L. Anderson of Cedar Rapids. The board also approved the nurses annual report and signed a resolution for area wide water and sewer planning, authorizing FHA planning at no county cost. Bonds were accepted for Herbert Levesen and Henry Weseman, trustees of the Olin benefited fire district.

Money stolen from Seven State gas station in Monticello
A $605 haul in five and ten dollar bills was stolen Sunday at 4 40 p m from the Seven State oil company at South Main and East Oak in Monticello. Described suspect wore white and blue overalls weighed 180 to 200 pounds and drove a green and white 1955 or 1956 Ford with Delaware county plates. A female companion sat in the car as police investigated with Chief Adrian Wilken and Deputy Arnold Latuska.
