Civil suits filed in Jones district court
Three civil cases were filed and four acts were taken in Jones county district court last week. Marie Pearson of Anamosa seeks separate maintenance from Harry C. Pearson and rights to household goods. Writs of habeas corpus were filed for Robert J. M. Carder and Berry Edmond Fox, inmates at Anamosa reformatory, with hearings held Friday. National Cash Register Co. won a judgment against Bert H. Loop owner of Loop Motel & Restaurant, for possession of three cash registers and costs. John W. Schrimper was appointed official court reporter by Judge David Harris on Monday.

Jones County Tax Exemption Rises Under House Bill 686
A preliminary tax survey shows about 71 percent of Jones county personal property exempt under the $2,500 exemption provision, with roughly 29 percent still taxed. City property exempts more than rural, averaging 66 percent in townships and 82 percent in towns. Taxpayers will receive an affidavit form around Sept. 1 to claim the credit.

Fire destroys Oxford junction building on Main Street
A 4 a.m. Saturday fire destroyed a main street one story building occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Stoner. Fire, blamed on faulty wiring, drove Mrs. Stoner from the home while Mr. Stoner was away. Delmar Culver owned the structure. Nearby Flory Feed and Benhart Produce sustained smoke damage as Wyoming and Lost Nation firefighters helped contain the blaze.

Gambles Win Honors at Dubuque Open Show

Joseph Peterson, 24, of Onslow, suffered a left-eye laceration after his 1967 Plymouth left Highway 151 north of Monticello and rolled over three culverts. He said he fell asleep. no charges were filed. Patrolman Tom Toner investigated.
