Alice McCarn heads to Quincy Michigan to visit. C A DeWitt leaves Eureka to Cedar Rapids for Republican job. A E Martin buys a fine buggy team. Mrs J H Lightfoot and mother depart for Waterloo. Carrie Hall visiting Cedar Rapids. Mollie Grassmeyer of Monticello visiting town. W W Stivers of Olin and James Davidson of Monticello attend Wyoming institute. M E S held a festival in hall. a ball at Fadley’s hall last night. CRAB APPLE.
The late M E quarterly meeting drew a large crowd with Rev B C Hammond and Rev Mr Pye delivering sermons. Local bread makers hailed, while farmers praise western crops and growth. A dime sociable at Mrs Moses Rollins raised $3.50 for church purposes with thirty five ladies present.
Birth noted in the family of L Clark and the marriage of Jas Maple to Miss Kate Thomas. Local youths attended the Wyoming institute with Bertha Paul Grace Maple Ella Cameron Franc Sears and Bertha Noyes listed. Miss Fannie Bedell of Anamosa visits Onslow. D McDaniels and wife were in Monticello.
W J Banghart of Chicago visits Cascade for a mix of business and pleasure. Minnie Halloran returns from Chicago and hosts a birthday party. Mrs Hayes receives a silver cake basket and scarf pin as thirty guests gather for a surprise wedding table. A second surprise marks Miss Lemon’s visit at Win Atchison Jr. home with friends. Two orphans.
Sand Spring Aug 14 1884. Hiram Lee boasts his regulation weight baby can "knock out" any Delaware county infant. The next day Martin Kane reports a rival with a 151 pound baby that kicks the beam. Hiram seeks a fitting new name.
