Four men were fined eight dollars with costs totaling eight eighty five after drunkenness and disorderly conduct in Anamosa. A witness noted a clothier helped a man obtain liquor under pretenses, prompting banter about a quart per suit. The town mourned Lena Scroggs, thirteen, who died after weeks of illness. funeral services were held and she rests at Riverside cemetery. Edmund Booth visited Webster City. John Cheshier was bruised when his team ran away. Anamosa Alumni Association held a picnic. report ends with Stenor Butz.

The August 16 1884 Republican County Convention in Monticello organized with temporary chairs R M Bush and P O Babcock. Delegates from townships were seated by credentials, committees on permanent organization and delegates to the state convention were named, and nominations by acclamation or ballot followed for several local offices including clerk of the courts and supervisor. The meeting adjourned to 1 pm with a full slate pending final ballots.
James Little injured his hand while wiring a fence. Betrend Bros. team ran away on the 18th with no harm. J B Ross recently returned from New York and stays with S. Hickman. Wn Hickman came from Rock Rapids and visits relatives. Rev Brown preached to a large congregation at the congregational church last Sunday and will preach again on the 24th. F B
