Mon ticello school board approves repairs and new auto mechanics
Mon ticello Community school board met in special session approving sidewalk replacement along the east line of Central school on highway 151 and bidding per city engineer specs. The board split a 313 322 fire and extended coverage policy between German Mutual and Castle Grove Mutual and authorized a new auto mechanics course taught by Elmer Anderson at the bus garage. They also approved two new athletic field ticket booths and shrub planting around Central, allowing a married senior to finish high school under current policy.

Monticello Toastmasters Organizes New Club Officers
The Monticello Toastmasters club held an organizational meeting on April 18 at the Monticello Community building. Temporary officers were elected Lynn Ritter president Bob Wright secretary treasurer and Joe Peterson program chairman. A Marion club delegation demonstrated the program with Virgil Sellers as toastmaster and five impromptu speakers.

Tetanus Booster Clinics Reported Across Three Towns
A total of 2,276 residents received tetanus boosters at clinics held April 22 and 23 in Monticello Anamosa and Cascade. Age groups 10-19, 20-39, and 40 plus saw hundreds of vaccinations distributed among the three towns. The first clinics were held last month and were sponsored by the Jones County Farm Bureau and Jones County Medical Society.

Heifer Killed Plowing Into Car Near Olin
A Guernsey heifer owned by Bernard Hay of rural Olin was struck and killed by a car driven by 17 year old Charles L. Rusenbeck of Mechanicsville. The collision occurred at 7 16 p m Wednesday April 19 as Rusenbeck and passenger Sid Moreland, 17, fled the scene with minor injuries. Damage to the 1962 Ford totaled about 500 dollars while the 800 pound cow valued at 300 dollars.
