Fire destroys barn and corn crib near Cascade
The Stecklein Brothers farm 1 1/2 miles northeast of Cascade suffered a blaze Monday night at 8. The Monticello, Cascade, Epworth fire departments fought the fire until 11. A few cattle died and 5000 bushels of corn were ruined in the crib. Flames blown toward the house damaged the basement and kitchen.

Youths Charged in Gasoline Theft From Farm Near Monticello
Six youths from Monticello and Hopkinton were picked up by the Jones County sheriff to answer charges of stealing gasoline from a barrel at the John Pieray farm on Picture Rocks road southeast of Monticello. Gas was missing from last summer to February with several youths named in the case.

Supper interrupted as the Stecklein family ate when a fire was discovered in the barn. Melted plates on the table show the intense heat that charred the kitchen. All joists burned and all 20 rooms suffered smoke damage across three buildings. Estimated total damage $35,000.

One Car Mishap Injures Sadie Cooper Near Scotch Grove
Sadie Cooper, 19, of Monticello, sustained a cut and possible shoulder injury in a one car crash on Highway 38 three miles south of Scotch Grove at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. Her vehicle left the shoulder after the right front wheel dropped off and could not be returned to the road. She was taken to John McDonald Hospital in Monticello for treatment. No charges were filed. Deputy Sheriff Arnold Latuska investigated.

Monti TV Center will construct a one story block building 36 by 44 feet on the former American Petroleum site west of Great Plains Supply Co. at West First street. Two-car crash injures Monticello passenger
A Thursday two-vehicle collision at North Gill Street and Laude Avenue in Philip House injures a Monticello resident, a passenger in a 1959 Buick driven by Robert Brockhohn. Henry Picray of Hopkinson, 18, was charged with defective brakes after his 1958 Pontiac rear-ended the Brockhohn car, causing about 250 dollars in front end damage and rear bumper and tail light damage. Police officer Henry Schone investigated.
