Sacred Heart Students Win In Jones County Essay Contest
Two Sacred Heart elementary sixth graders from Monticello Beth White and James Elbracht won prizes in a Jones County Federated Women's clubs sponsored contest. Beth placed first, James third. essays titled A Past to Honor A Future to Mold. Beth’s entry advanced to the state level as awards of 5 and 2 dollars plus a Bicentennial coin were given at the club convention in Center Junction.

The Grant Wood Area Education Agency will offer a parent education program for parents of preschool children in Monticello. The seven week course runs weekly from April 14 at St Luke's Methodist Church, 9 to 11 a.m. Advanced registration is required and space is limited. County magistrate processed many charges this week including five marijuana possession transfers to juvenile court for youths from Anamosa Hopkinton and Anamosa.
