James H Briggs born June 6 1833 in Chatham County North Carolina died Sept 10 1913 in Montezuma Indiana aged 80 years 3 months 4 days He married Sarah J Cory June 21 1858 and had eight children six living He was a Civil War veteran with the 63rd Indiana Infantry and member of Grand Army of the Republic Masons and Odd Fellows He joined New Light church and is survived by a sister in Lafayette and six children plus grandchildren and great grandchildren
The infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Calvin Mills died Friday and was buried Saturday. Weighing two pounds at birth she lived one week. The four year old son of Mr and Mrs Walter Harding died Saturday of diphtheria and was interred at Bloomingdale cemetery. Fredrick Hunt, son of Mr and Mrs William Hunt, died Sunday and was buried at Oakland cemetery. he was ill only a short time.
A basket meeting is held at Linebarger Chapel with Sunday School and morning service as usual. A special service in the afternoon marks the last service of the present conference year.
The M. E. Church lists no Sunday morning service with Sunday School at 9 30 a m and an evening service at 730 p m This will be the last service of the present conference year Those who pledged benevolences must meet by Sunday as the pastor departs for the Conference Monday following.
