The Chicago Record-Herald notes optimistic verses about a coming better day. The lyrics envision honesty prevailing, no cheating, protection for the weak, fair judgment of people by good deeds, and an end to boasting and bullying.
The contract to repair the Wabash bridge grade was let to Thomas Wilson for $6295. The commissioners will supply the dirt and Wilson plans full speed ahead using available labor. The piece urges the C and E I railroad to complete the overhead bridge at West Montezuma, warning of danger if delays continue.
A town meeting formed a sub committee to develop concrete fire protection plans for council consideration. Members voiced support for a water works system though the final choice remains undetermined. The paper promises fuller details in the next issue.

School No 11 is closed by order of the County Superintendent and its pupils will ride wagons to Coloma. Trustee Hugh Montgomery says buildings are ready for the new term.
Independent ticket reports a convention at the opera house Wednesday night nominating R. W. Johnston for 1st ward F. A. Stebbins for 2nd ward D. I. Dunlap for 3rd ward and H. S. Cornwell for 5th ward. The article describes them as business men likely to bring honest town management.
J R Johnson known as Flat Rock Johnson died Tuesday evening at 6 30 at his daughter’s home in Vermillion county after a long illness and a prior stroke. Funeral services will be held at the daughter’s residence this evening at 2 o’clock with interment at Cedar Corner cemetery.
The Reserve township Advisory Board met at Hugh Montgomery's office to set annual appropriations and tax levy. The board was reorganized with A. Connor as president Levi Linebarger as secretary and John Weaver joining the board.
Dr. New house and Dooley performed a hemorrhoid operation on James Naylor Friday. The lengthy illness caused years of discomfort, but the procedure went through successfully and Naylor is progressing well. He plans to be discharged within about a week.
William Chumley pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count and was sentenced to two to four teen years in the penitentiary for forging numerous bank checks. He fled west after the theft, was recaptured, and will now serve time to learn that the way of the transgressor is hard.
Fourteen young lady friends surprised Miss Muriel Machledt with a miscellaneous shower of useful presents on the eve of her marriage. The gathering was merry with jokes and advice for the bride to be as she embarks on married life.

The Rockville Cornet Band performed a fine concert at the pool on Friday night to a fair size crowd. The music was of high class and enjoyed by all. Owing to cool weather bathing was light. Mr. Laverty has added new selections for his player piano and offers a free concert each evening to make the pool a pleasant visiting spot.
A large Rockville crowd attended Vivaphone at Beechwood Park Tuesday night to see a bum production of singing and talking pictures. The sole bright note was the photo play The Coquette.
