Church directory for the Methodist Episcopal church lists Sabbath School at 9 30 a m with S J Holmes starting Sept, preaching at 10 45 a m biweekly, 7 30 p m preaching, 7 30 p m Thursday prayer meeting led by A B Simpson the pastor.
The church announces a 9:30 a.m. Sabbath School and a 7:00 p.m. preaching service led by Pastor J. D. Ulay.
United Brethren church marks a 9:30 a.m. Sabbath School led by B. F. Hoover with a 7:30 p.m. Christian Endeavor and a 3:00 p.m. preaching service on every other Sabbath. W. E. Dyg serves as pastor.
Catholic mass will be held on the second and fourth Sundays of each month. Time to be announced. Father A H Busald serves as pastor.
Christian Bible School is held at 9 30 a m with preaching every first Sunday of each month Pastor R R Ohaver leads the services.

A new company forms to prospect coal near Newport. Chas. Causey, a substantial Reserve township farmer, backs the project and if the current tests prove as good as ten holes drilled, Big Hill could become a mining center. Attorney Harnest Causey, son of Charles, is active in leasing, with over two thousand acres secured.
A burglar entered a Newman Illinois butcher shop and stole $4.00 in cash but passed on the meat theft as it proved too costly. The thief deemed the meat prices too high to tackle.
After four months in darkness the town’s new electric light plant was energized Saturday evening. The upgraded facility offers improved service, better pricing, and a superior engine and dynamo room praised for brick and steel construction, dust and fireproofing, with anticipated completion of finishing touches to rival city plants.
The Marion Brick Works, once under a receiver, was sold Friday afternoon to W D McKvaine of Denver for Montezuma Brick Works. Montezuma’s officers include R H Lanyon of Chicago, Robert Cousin secretary, and W D McIlvaine treasurer, with F A Cole as manager. The plant will focus on building brick and operate under the same management, delivering goods and planning a steady year with winter orders.
Geo. Mathas & Son announce a car load of potatoes on the C. H. D. track at Montezuma in about a week to ten days, selling at 66 cents per bushel at the car.
Steel framework of the Burns and Hancock Clay Works plant in Busyrus Ohio was finished Saturday. Illinois Steel Co provided the steel, and only two holes required change. No accidents occurred during construction. Keehm of Americar Machinery Co will install machinery, aiming to resume brickmaking by early next year.
Lem Osborne has purchased a 1915 Overland touring car from Pressler sales rooms. He has long favored cars and believes the Overland offers the best value for money.
County agent H J Reed will host an orchard demonstration at William Mathas farm on Thursday November 5 at 1 00 PM. All interested in caring for and properly setting orchard trees are invited.
