On Friday evening October 18 friends and Rebekah sisters surprised Mr and Mrs Fred Machledt for Mrs Machledt birthday. Mr Christy knocked, laughter followed, Mrs Machledt appeared calm. The evening featured jokes nuts and homemade refreshments and a rug as a gift.
The Clintonian plans to convert from semi weekly to daily within the first week of November. Publisher Bro Pierce believes the 9000 resident town and surrounding area can sustain a daily edition after a successful semi weekly run.
Mrs S F McCune entertained Miss Julia Chute and guests at dinner Tuesday. Wednesday afternoon Miss Margaret and Miss Mary Hill hosted in her honor with Mesdames Montgomery Dooley Cornwell Causey Arn Powell Hirsbrunner Aikman and Misses Lo Reeder Hollowell in attendance.
Last Saturday Harry S. Milligan of Indianapolis became owner of the J. S. Hollowell fire clay plant on the H. H. & D. railroad two miles west of here. Miss Mable Hollowell will manage local affairs while the main office remains in Indianapolis. Milligan will visit weekly to oversee operations.
Mr and Mrs W P Montgomery hosted a theatre party at the Grand in Terre Haute on Wednesday evening for Rockville friends including Dick Ott Max Puett Cullen Ott Frank Adame Mary Eliot and Frank Nichols The guests attended the play The High Road.
The new elevator advances toward operation by the second week in November with dumps, shelter, and conveyers in place. Officials expect it to greatly aid farmers by handling local corn and keeping grain from leaving Montezuma while offering a safe, modern facility.
At the home of William J. Cotrell a reunion brought together thirty or more aging veterans. Attendees included James H. Briggs 63 Ind age 79 F M Johns 1st Ind age 65 Vance Richardson 85th Ind age 72 and others from 7th Kan Car LV 149th Ind. age 72. Fifty three attended dinner and expressed pride in having served under the Stars and Stripes.
The Montezuma Dancing Club held its first dance of the season at Montgomery Hall on Friday night and plans monthly dances through winter. Attendees included Misses Mariel Wachled Lizzie Downey Nina Ratcliff Hildegrad Haspel Ethel Butcher Marie McCord Agnes McGinty Helen McGinty Goldin Sylvia Pickle Irene Jessop and Newport guests Mrs Mae Oakley Turner plus Messrs Glen Rhodes Harry Hooker Otis Southard James Saxton Dana Claude Ingram Hillsdale Tom Dunlap Frank McCord Walter McCord Robert Gretencort Walter Rierdon Harry Reeder Harry Kohr John Underwood Allan Cleaver Oscar Salle Edward Hancock. Chaperones were Miss Hirsbruner and Mocks Briedenbach with music by Thomas and Kerner of Terre Haute.
Infant son of Mrs Jen kins, Hillsdale, died Oct 15 with funeral at home Oct 16, Rev J J Davis presiding. Interment at Thomas cemetery. Infant son of Mr and Mrs Oscar Jones, Hillsdale, died Oct 18 with funeral at M E Church, Rev Beebee officiating, Oct 19 at 2 o'clock. interment at Holt Prairie.
The Mendenhalls gathered at the Dodsons Sunday with relatives from Hendricks County Coloma Turkey Run Tangier Champaign Perrysville and North Dakota. They shared reminiscences of early family days and returned home pleased to have all met again.

Harry Machledt attends the Clarke School of Embalming in Cincinnati. He expects to be absent about eight weeks and upon return he will be able to take charge of embalming work.
Mrs. Wallace Laverty learned Sunday that her father David Graham of Joplin Missouri was near death. Frank Ellis of Terre Haute and Wm Brockway of Wabash township visited the bedside but arrived too late. Graham died Sunday night at 8. He was buried Tuesday at 2 pm from the Masonic Temple, a member of the order. Owing to illness of Mrs Laverty's father, he and his wife did not attend.
The L B C met with Mrs. W L McCord last Thursday to discuss latest productions. Refreshments were served as attendees left pleased with the hostess’s hospitality and praise for the event.
A $25.00 reward is offered by W. P. Montgomery for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone stealing a corn crop from the Bipus land north of town.
Mrs M McGinty and her daughters Agnes and Helen visited Indianapolis on Saturday, spending time with local acquaintances and touring city sights. The excursion highlighted family ties and social visit patterns of the era.
Ed Burns was in Chicago on business. A baby girl born Thursday morning to James Daniels and wife. Various locals and visitors from Indianapolis Terre Haute Dana Clinton Decatur Evansville Hammond and Rockville attend gatherings, weddings, and events. Local candidates Dick McCune Aikman McCune and Huxford circulate and campaign while Roy Aikman Gordon Beedle and others visit family and friends. Max Puett introduces a new theatre show Where the Trail Divides at the Opera House October 28.
