The Enterprise misses last week issue as the editor lies ill with a fever near 100. Efforts to hire a temporary printer failed, leaving the paper unable to publish until the editor recovers. The note asks readers to pardon the interruption and hopes for better health and help in the future.
On September 27 C N Bradshaw alias Davis Jones White and unknown others married Lockie Anderson and claimed a couple thousand dollars in the Newman Til bank. He sought to push money into a joint fund for a five and ten store in Indianapolis but the plan failed. Investigations showed he had no funds and was an imposter who tried this scheme with others in the area. A public admonition followed urging severe punishment.
About thirty five friends gathered Friday night to honor Roland Jackson and family with a surprise farewell in their home. Leon Peyton supplied music on a phonograph as light refreshments of sandwiches pickles cake and bananas were served. The friends wished them prosperity in their new Springfield Illinois home.
Colonel Rosevelt was shot Monday evening as he left his Milwaukee hotel for the Auditorium. He received a flesh wound in the breast but proceeded to the hall and spoke to the crowd showing the bloodstains on his garments where the bullet entered. The assailant was unidentified.
The old frame building on C. S. Overman’s lot in Montezuma is being torn down by Frank Pressier to make way for a new auto sales room. The landmark built in the 1850s has served many uses from residence to wood shop and auto repair. The main room will be 40 by 70 feet with a 12 foot ceiling, truss roof and concrete floor.
Walter Widely son of Vice President Widley of the Premier Co. of Indianapolis traveled in a Premier six with a musical horn. Pressing a button set the device to play music. Geo W. Hughes of Hume, Ir. traveled with him as they headed to Hume for a homecoming with expected classical tunes Saturday. It is said to be the only musical horn car in Indiana.
A Friday night gathering at Dick Bailys home bid farewell to Mrs Ava Wilson who left Tuesday to join her husband in Lewiston Montana. Attendees included Mrs M McGinty and daughters Agnes and Helen, and several other local women. They presented Anna with a linen table cloth and enjoyed ice cream and cake as they wished her a safe trip and happy new home.
All old soldiers are requested to meet at the residence of Jesse Cottrell next Sunday in October for a reunion activity providing a local historical social gathering.
Peter Harper an elderly resident of this place now living with his son James near Bloomingdale died Thursday October 8 funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Friday at 11 conducted by Rev Aarhart of Greencastle interment at Oakland cemetery He was nearly 72 years old and is survived by three sons and three daughters Erastus Harper of this place John James and Mrs W Ireland Bloomingdale Mrs Martin Warner West Union and Mrs Hattie Morgan Indianapolis
In a letter from The ENTERPRISE the community is urged to install a loud fire alarm on the town house after a blaze at the Rawlings home. Citizens praise local volunteers and call on town leaders to act immediately to summon firefighters in emergencies.
A horse drawn by Charlie Hughes bolted near West Montezuma on Saturday evening. The buggy struck a telephone pole, throwing Hughes. He suffered a head wound and a broken nose but is reported to be improving.
The S. G. Yow family held their annual fish dinner at Das Grosz Haus, the home of J. G. Hirsbrunner, last Sunday. Attendees included Mrs. and Mrs. S.G Yow, J. O. Glasson and family, Bonner Swain and family, Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Hirsbrunner, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar McCampbell, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Yow, and the Misses Hester Yow, Hildegard Haspel and Ethel Butcher.
A cave in at a gravel pit east of town trapped Geo Bryant around 1 PM. He was covered by debris between a wagon wheel and the slide, suffering internal injuries with no broken bones yet. Dr Reed examined him after rescue and noted the outcome uncertain.
A long list of social visits and travels includes Miss Mary Hill in Terre Haute on Tuesday and Oscar Salb in Indianapolis on Wednesday. Many others from Rockville to Noblesville, Clinton, Danville, and Chicago were noted visiting, hosting, or motoring to events and locations such as Turkey Run and St Louis. The round of gatherings ends with locals watching the World Series in Rockville, where Boston won 2 to 1 in ten innings.
