Church directory notes Sabbath School at 9 30 a m with S J Holmes preaching at 10 45 a m every other week and 7 30 p m services. Thursday 7 30 p m prayer meeting led by A B Simpson pastor.
The notice lists Sabbath School at 9:30 a.m. and preaching at 10:45 a.m. plus a 7:00 p.m. sermon from J. D. Ulayy, pastor. The United Brethren schedule includes 9:30 a.m. Sabbath School, 7:30 p.m. Christian Endeavor, 3:00 p.m. preaching every other Sabbath, with W. E. Dye as pastor.
Catholic Mass will be held on the second and fourth Sundays each month. Time to be announced by Father A H Busald, pastor.
At 9 30 a m Bible School is held with preaching by Pastor R R Ohaver on the first Sunday of each month.
A vintage safety verse warns children about rail danger. It covers crossing at tracks, listening and looking, not hopping freight cars, avoiding resting beneath rolling cars, and waiting when crossings are blocked. It also warns against playing near stations, removing spikes, crossing bridges, and handling embers around yards.
The London Prosser and Diamond Combined Shows come to the Opera House for one night Friday Oct 2. A company will debut new features including a Maple Mat Dancing Act, with songs dances and clean comedy throughout. Admission 15 and 25 cents with extra for reserved seats.
The newly laid block paving was opened this morning after drying. Property owners on the street praise the work and expect more improvements at the C H D depot with several signifying willingness to fund paying places. If spring signatures rise, expansion is likely. The street’s freeze thaw test will determine further action.
Workers at the Burns and Hancock plant began erecting steel work and expect roof completion in two to three weeks. The engine and boiler rooms will be roofed first and ready for business as engines are connected to boilers. By the 15th of the month electricity and lights are anticipated. the engine and electric room is large, well ventilated, and kept dust free from brick trades.
The false work around the railroad bridge pier settled Saturday evening, throwing the track out of line. Section and bridge men rushed to the scene and realigned the track. Quicksand from excavating caused the settling, but contractors Sheesley & Janny Co. expect no further trouble and will accelerate piers work with their machinery and modern appliances.
Mrs Barney Davey and her son Edward returned Tuesday after a three months visit with relatives and friends in Colorado.
Oliver S Goodsell born July 28 1837 in Pittsfield Massachusetts son of John M Goodsell who served in War of 1812 died after a long illness in Montezuma. He married Mary L Reynolds May 29 1862 and had five children four living Lulu Hixon Hattie Skeeters Mattie Brown Oliver Jr. He fought in Vicksburg and later lived in McLane New York before settling in Montezuma for 24 years. He was esteemed for his amiable qualities and endured seven years as an invalid with patience.
Dick McIntosh and Harry Reeder are developing into first class fishermen and Sunday captured twenty three bass from Raccoon creek. They had a picture taken of the catch and when they become old they will tell their children about their prowess as kids.
Mrs. Jake Christ suffered painful burns to her hands when her apron ignited and set her skirt aflame Monday evening while she was preparing supper. She managed to extinguish the fire with no serious injuries. Her husband Jake Christ also burned his hands assisting.
The Ladies Aid Society of the Christaan church will hold a market on Saturday October 10. The venue and exact location will be announced next week.
Grant J. E. Johnston and his son Ralph traveled to Indianapolis and returned with a Grant runabout. Johnston plans to develop into a regular autoist and use the vehicle for trips to and from his farm.
Mr and Mrs H S Cornwell hosted a Wednesday dinner in honor of Mrs Margaret Hill Mrs Indiana Hill Mrs S J Bailey and daughter Ora The occasion marked Mrs Hill's upcoming departure on October 7 for Tacoma Washington to spend the winter with her sons.
