Thirty five relatives and friends gathered Friday at Mr fluish home to celebrate Mrs Catherine Tomey birthday. Sam Osman of Dana performed readings in the afternoon as guests enjoyed a bountiful dinner and various musical selections. Gifts and tokens were given as well wishes were exchanged.
The Clinton poultry show at Moose Hall runs Friday morning November 16 through Tuesday November 20. Officials report 500 entries and more birds than any prior Clinton show. Admittance is 10 and 15 cents to help defray expenses.
Annual Red Cross Roll Call spans November 11 to 29. Get your button at the local banks.
Rex Theatre announces a string of shows Friday and Saturday with Constance Talmadge in Polly of the Follies and a Paul Parrott comedy Tight Shoes. Sunday features The Prisoner of Zenda with Lewis Stone and Alice Terry. Tuesday brings Alias Julius Caesar with Charles Ray and Barbara Bedford. Wednesday shows Crinoline and Romance with Viola Dana and Jackie Coogan. No advance in price. 10 and 20 cents. upcoming Main Street and Human Wreckage touted.
Montezuma defeated Rockville 16 to 5 in a tightly played basketball game noted for clean play and sharp passing. Clary Burns and McMasters starred for Montezuma with Forrest and Clary forming a strong guard pair. The curtain raiser saw Bono girls defeat the locals 8 to 2. Montezuma also slated to play Bloomingdale Friday and the Tigers prepared for a Saturday clash with Clinton Juniors at 7 30.
Weekend visits fill Leatherwood as Mrs. Opal Wimmer and relatives share time with the Knights and Wimmer Phillips. Illness hits Mrs. Lela Wolfe of Anderson, with Vera Knight traveling to help. A derailment near Leatherwood crossing disrupts traffic for hours.
The Presbyterian Church announces regular Sunday services with morning preaching at eleven and evening at seven. Everyone is invited to attend all services and to invite friends, with a welcoming note that members should plan to be present and make attendance a habit.
Mrs Fannie Miles visited her son Floyd Miles and family at Newport on Sunday.
A Christian JOB class outing led by Doctor Conrad Hann with teacher Phillips gathered teens Sunday after Sunday school. They traveled by car and trailer, set up a campfire, shared lunch, and enjoyed roasted sausages. Bloomingdale’s Louis Anderson buys Dana hardware store from B L Fillinger who will stay in plumbing. A small fire at Harry Hesfar home east of town is doused with little damage. Four men released from daily jail for murder and liquor violations in the Cofel case. trial set for November. Vermilion county architects Byard and Fillinger finish plans for the new county courthouse with 23 blueprints and 175-page specs. building details outlined.
A new mining town near the Newport coal mine one mile north will be named Causeyville after the Causeys who leased the land. Guy H. Briggs of Clinton plans a large sale of lots at reasonable prices once outstanding issues are resolved, with forty applications already filed.
The hunting and trapping period runs from November 10 to February 10. Quail rabbit fox opossum raccoon skunk mink and musk rat may be taken with a license.

From the Indianapolis Star November 7, 1909: B A Worthington retires as president of the GI and W railroad. Fred Zimmerman of Chicago is announced as the new president and will assume charge around December 1. Zimmerman is described as a high class railroad man with extensive experience. Worthington will move to California.
The Semi-Annual convention of the Indiana Retail Dry Goods Association will be held in Indianapolis at the Lincoln Hotel on Thursday, Nov. 15. Merchants in the dry goods and ready-to-wear trades are urged to attend, members or not, to discuss current trade conditions and progress.
Vermillion County commissioners name Robar Hart of Newport as superintendent of the county poor asylum successor to Monroe Bailey who resigned. The four year term begins immediately.
