Professors Woodrow Wilson and Thomas R. Marshall have been named to the highest office in the nation. The voice of the people swept a large vote for a change, giving them the presidency and undisputed control for four years. May their administration bring growth and prosperity.
Tuesday results show a near even split between two old parties for Parke County offices. Moss won the 5th district congress seat and Sunkle was chosen joint prosecutor for Parke and Vermillion counties. other officials include Cummings clerk Rush treasurer Nicholas sheriff Collins coroner Davies surveyor Mottern commissioner Linebarger commissioner in three districts.
A Wednesday session of the Masons raised Edward Hancock to the M. M. degree. Poor weather reduced attendance, but the gathering was still enjoyable and profitable for those in attendance.

Mr and Mrs J E Johnston were called to Peoria Illinois on Saturday due to the serious illness of Mrs Johnston's sister Mrs G A Smith.
A $25 reward is offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone stealing corn from the Bipus land north of town. The notice is attributed to W. P. Montgomery.
Young ladies and numerous gentlemen attended a leap year dance Friday night with attendees named including Marie Johnston Agnes McGinty Sylvia Pickle and many others. Refreshments of pumpkin pie ginger cake and coffee were served at the residence of J G Hiursbrunner.
On Halloween night the bell clapper vanished from the school house and the next morning no chimes sounded. The janitor found the clapper returned with a note claiming two score years and ten of duty and requesting a year of vacation, promising to resume service in a year.
Rain fell Thursday night keeping local Halloween marauders indoors. Very little mischief occurred as gates and outbuildings remained untouched and weather limited diversions into Friday morning.
John Brockway won the champion shoe pitcher medal at the Terre Haute carnival and corn show last week. He displayed the medal to local boys on Saturday and was proud as if he had won the auto.
J S Hollowell sold his residence to Chas Causey of West Union this week and will move into the old Johnston home just north of S C Cowgill. Joe Taylor owns the property and will move there shortly.
A Chicago murder case centers on Miss Singer of Baltimore. The killer is alleged to be the man who once performed as a crippled high diver near Pressler's auto sales. Conway's wife admits her husband killed Miss Singer with a door knob tied in a handkerchief, motive robbery, noting Miss Singer had eloped with William Worthen.
Friends and Pythian sisters surprised Mrs Oxley with a birthday party Monday evening. They gathered in a group, enjoyed a pleasant evening and light refreshments, and left wishing her many more happy birthdays.

Rockville closes schools and bans public gatherings due to widespread diphtheria. Children barred from streets as authorities enforce preventive measures and monitor the outbreak.
