A group gathered at Miss Maud Mathas home Thursday to honor Master Jonnie Gretencort who is soon off to the west. The evening passed in the usual enjoyable social activities and the guests praised Maud as a fine host and wished Jonnie a pleasant trip to his new home.
Present indications suggest a banner fruit year with good yields in apples pears peaches and cherries. A couple of rains should boost small fruits especially blackberries and keep housewives busy preserving tasty fixins for frost season.
The G A R veterans will observe Decoration Day Friday May 30 with service at 2 30 P M at the Presbyterian church Rev Calahan son of a veteran will deliver the address correcting last week's Methodist church error.
Francis X. Burke and Maxwell Rufus Johnson both seniors at Purdue University along with Geo Steely and Cye Alexas Burke of New York City passed through Lafayette on Monday to map the Wabash River for the Purdue Canoe Club. They planned a trip in the first or second week of June meeting State Geologist Mr Bonette who would accompany them to Vincennes.
Neighbors and friends gathered Thursday evening to honor Mrs. John Gretencort with baskets of fruit and candy. The ladies enjoyed jokes recitations and music with a playful bear dance by Miss Gertrude Rierdon. Guests included Messrs James McGinty Fellows Barnes Ratcliffe McIntosh Wm Morris Hugh Aikman John Macfedt Overman Pickle and Misses Ella Gertrude Rierdon Aelen McGinty Goldin Sylvia Pickle Mable Fellows Mil dred and Catharine Aikman as they wished her happiness in Lewiston Montana where she plans to move soon.
Thursday evening Tom Dunlap suffered a painful but not serious accident at a gravel pit when the hoisting engine shaft broke and the fly wheel fell on his left foot. He used crutches for several days but has resumed his duties and is recovering.

Parke and Vermilion county commissioners met to view grade damage and agreed on rapid repairs. They will create a three to four hundred foot opening to improve water drainage and will share costs, starting work as soon as arrangements are made.
Roy Aikman received word from the secretary of the Indianapolis Gun Club that his score of 11 was logged Tuesday, with a few shots landing inside the target.
The Indiana Sunday School Convention will meet in Evansville June 17 to 19. Notable attendees include Dr A H McKinney and Dr H M Hamill with others from Ohio and Chicago. Music will be led by B O Excell with Laura Riehl presiding at the piano. Indiana workers will be on duty and many special conferences planned. Write 417 Law Bldg Indianapolis for details.
An amateur from this place at the Indianapolis gun club shoot scored well. EK Asbury made 117, Roy Aikman 111, Geo Kemp 90, and W P Montgomery 85 of 150 birds, a strong showing given no prior practice.
George Skeeters and Miss Sabra Mathas married Friday evening in Rockville after a drive from town. Skeeters, a long time resident with many friends, and Mathas, born in Parke County and recently moved to town, are praised by the Enterprise and well wishers.
Sixteen couples attended the Friday night dance at Montgomery hall. Three couples from Rockville joined in the event, which brought much pleasure to lovers of the pastime during the past winter season.
Rev R R Chavez will deliver morning sermons on Echoes from the State Convention and an evening talk The Queen of the Home. The latter honors mothers both living and dead and addresses children. All are invited to attend.
Seven graduates will receive diplomas at Coloma on Friday June 13 during the township commencement. Graduates are Opal Humbert Paul Collins Lola Colson Clarence Fuller Minnie Williams Russell Wright and Eugenia Cox. E E Helt will deliver the address and the Rockville orchestra provides music. Township trustee Hugh Montgomery and teachers Miss Mellie Linebarger and GC A Weller are praised for a successful year and renewal of their posts.
The Montezuma Sand and Gravel Co has lined up heavy operations in Illinois with new loading machinery. An 80 foot mast supports a cable for the loading bucket able to reach 40 feet to lift gravel from the pit bottom, signaling readiness for contracts of any size.
F A Stebbins has returned to his old home as Fred makes improvements on the place. A Friday yard collision of trains disturbed several laborers but caused no serious injuries. Mr and Mrs Clinton Cristy spent Sunday on an excursion to the State Capitol. Geo Roebuck of Vermillion county visited Saturday.

Mrs Susie McIntosh of Clinton attends farewell tendered to Mrs Gretencort. D E K Overman visits old friend Clarence O’Haver at North Vernon. Miss Sallie Athern runs the jewelry store in Overman’s absence. Val Laverty contemplates a pleasure boat for pool excursions on the Wabash. Everett, Thompson, Eskey, Hancock and Wright of Tuscola pass through en route to Indianapolis for the 500 mile race. Spring painters and paper hangers busy. town freshens up. Chas Hasford and family move into Frank Jones property in north town. Mr Huxford buys Hugh Montgomery’s share in the furniture store. C A Weller of Hillsdale visits and arranges reserve township school graduation programs at Coloma. Chase Back and wife are also seen.
