Evansville prepares for the Indiana Sunday School Convention to be held June 17 18 and 19 with Edward D. Koenemann as General Chairman. Committees include O C Carr A W Severinghaus Geo L Daum Edward McGinness Henry Graff Rev Paul Pfeiffer W L Howerton and H E Guthrie. The Furniture and Undertaking establishment of Hugh Montgomery and Co changes hands. Hugh Montgomery sold his interest to Vorhees Huxford of Florida Township for his son, Charles. Machlett will keep his stake as Machlett and Huxford take charge Monday.
Decoration Day on Friday May 30 observers plan a fitting observance at the Methodist church with an address by Rev. Calahan son of a veteran.
The pool management and adjacent residents install a sprinkling system and lay a water main with hydrants along the street for about six hundred feet to keep dust down using hose applications.
Arthur Deitz, once of Montezuma, took a car from a Clinton garage after hours and, while inexperienced at driving, crashed into farmer Charles Smith near Mecca injuring him with a broken leg and ribs. Smith’s needs were met by a settlement funded by Deitz’s father.
An editorial urges Montezuma to revive an old time independence day celebration after ten to twelve years. It calls for community effort, labor, and planning to stage a twentieth century style amusement event and picnic, inviting residents to support and organize a meeting.
A letter urges enforcement of laws against throwing glass bottles on public highways. The author notes daily violations by thoughtless individuals, causing hazards to traffic and travel, and argues that fines will deter the nuisance and promote respect for the law.
Morning and evening services at the Methodist church Sunday. Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. The Junior League meets Thursday at 3:30 p.m. Midweek devotional Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The memorial service will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
The G. A. R. memorial service will be held Sunday at 2 30 PM at the Methodist Church. Veterans of Montezuma and Hillsdale and surrounding territory are urged to attend. Rev Hicks will deliver the memorial sermon and a Male Quartette will provide special music. Public invited to attend.
John Harle of Vermillion county and Frank Pressier Regal representative visited Indianapolis on Tuesday and brought back a Model C for local display. The other 4 passenger underslung Regal proves popular wherever shown and expected to win praise from car enthusiasts.
Commissioner Thomas H. Catlin of Vermillion County argues Parke County must share costs for repairing the grade from the river bottom to the Montezuma bridge. Parke County Attorney Henry Daniels and Parke’s lawyers Maxwell and McFaddin meet the issue as legal, with no board order yet. Immediate action urged if Parke must pay part of the expense.
