Rev. T. H. Nelson of Indianapolis assisted Rev. R. J. Hicks in a series of special meetings at the Methodist Church. Nelson, editor of the Ram's Horn, spoke each evening at 7 o'clock and was welcomed by a leading chorus in Montezuma.
Marion Brick Works sends a brick by parcel post to Chicago for a clay products exposition. Twenty five thousand bricks from U S plants will be mailed to build and later re assemble a brick house to be given away. The test trackers delivery speed from mail to destruction is observed with interest. Montezuma will have bricks in the first mail sent brick house.
Manson Keller wrecked his livery rig on a return from Mecca, turning the buggy over and breaking the shafts. He escaped injury but walked home after abandoning the crippled vehicle. Grant Hamilton later retrieved the damaged rig on Sunday morning.
Last Thursday evening at six o'clock Rev Freed of Rockville solomnized Elva Marshall of near Rockville and Emma Rawlings daughter of W S Rawlings of this place. No guests attended the ceremony but Marshall friends witnessed the knot. The couple drove to the bride's home for a supper with relatives and an old fashioned charivari followed. They left Friday for their future farm home.
Dan Grass a dustless mop peddler from Mattoon writes Charleston friends from Milwaukee that he will go far away possibly west where he is unknown. He says he does not fear authorities but prefers to keep moving for the time being.
Manteno Illinois February 13 1919 O E Cook formerly of Parke now with Manteno Brick Tile Co requests a subscription to his friend Owen Overman s Montezuma Enterprise sending a check and best wishes for success in his new position.
Mrs Dan Grass entertained the DU Sunday school group last Thursday evening at her home. A good number attended and the night featured games followed by light refreshments. The gathering was described as enjoyable and profitable.
Friends announce Edward Donaud son has a position as a page at the State Legislature. Howard proves capable of serving with honor as a maker among lawmakers. Daisy Moore of Milligan spent Sunday as a guest of home folks.
A letter from a local reader criticizes the Montezuma telephone operator and directory layout. The writer urges printing town-first directories to aid callers, notes electric lighting in Bert Cornwell’s store, and complains about power costs and public works in Vermillion County.
Adams township voters approved the dry outcome by 213 votes. The editorial credits women's work and children's interest for the win and hopes the county soon supports prohibition across the board. Montezuma saloons operate lawfully, but the piece urges a county wide dry era.
Rooster Mathas and Pick en Fellows launch two chair barber shop in the building opposite the electric theater. They are open for business and rely on friendly service and a wide network of friends to attract patrons.
A Friday evening gathering at Miss Nina Aikman’s home on East Market Street drew a large crowd of young attendees. Notable out of town guests included Paul Samuels of Cayuga Everett Stierwalt of Terre Haute Tom Dunlap of Montezuma and Miss Marvel Jones of Dana Indiana.
Mrs Whittenmeyer, formerly of this place, living with Thomas Causey since her husband’s death, fell Monday and broke her shoulder. Dr Dooley was called and set the fracture. Recovery will take some time with limited use of her arm.
Henry Rohr fell about eighteen feet while tearing down a barn for Cave Line barger near West Union. He was unconscious for about an hour after his head struck a beam leaving a gash over the right eye. Dr. Reeder treated the injuries and reported his condition as progressing as well as could be expected.
