The article proclaims Woodrow Wilson sworn in as president amid a nationwide demonstration. It praises his executive ability and leadership as governor of New Jersey and expects his administration to advance the nation with Congress behind him. It hopes his tenure ends with praise for duty fulfilled.
FALL Sunday morning at the tile plant south of Hillsdale the elevator dropped three stories. Bat Mc Carty sustained internal injuries with blood from nose and ears while Clarence Watson escaped unharmed. Mc Carty is under a physician's care and improving.
Mr Powell, manager of the Electric Theater, promises Homer's Odyssey soon. Produced in Italy at a cost of $200,000 the film retells the Trojan War with 8000 feet of footage. It is billed as a great masterpiece and a date will be announced here.
In a January feature, American Machinery Co. praises Albion Shale Brick Co of Albion Illinois and their head burner Arthur Books for a ten chamber Haigh Kim Shey unit delivering an almost perfect burn with minimal loss and uniform cherry color.
A southbound freight wrecked near Hillsdale around 3 A.M. Saturday, piling coal cars into the Roebuck brick building and waking Mrs. John Hudson and her children on the second story. The engineer and fireman escaped as the engine tipped, with no injuries reported though debris scattered across pool tables. The towerman claims the signal was against the train and it ignored it, delaying track clearance until the day’s end.
A large Monday night crowd enjoyed the Electric Theater program. Sarah Bernhardt as Camille in a three reel feature was praised as one of the season’s best. Gar el Hama in three parts showcased the clever criminal eluding capture, but he ultimately ended up in the tombs.
Sunday night a youth threw an apple through a north window of Jones Bros' store leaving a calf sized hole. The culprit, identified as a known troublemaker, should replace the glass to avoid trouble. Joe Hayworth was arraigned before Hsg. Houchin and fined about $12 for the offense.
Miss Hazel Wilson of Grant County wed Mr George V Van Leer of Marion in a Benton Harbor Michigan Methodist parsonage ceremony. Rev McKevren officiated. The couple returned to Marion to establish a home with Van Leers.
The Clinton Independent basketball team hosts the Montezuma Independents at Montgomery Hall tonight. A closely matched game follows a recent Clinton draw, with Clinton confident on their home floor and urging local support for the boys.
Rev. T. H. Nelson, Rams' Horn editor, preaches at 7 p.m. services at the Methodist Church. Large attendance and strong interest despite poor weather. Nelson is described as a clear expository preacher with witty, humorous illustrations.
The Montezuma dancing club hosted a social at Montgomery Hall last Friday night with twenty couples dancing to music by Lowe and Powers of Terre Haute. Guests included Miss Louise Turner of Newport Miss Hazel Hendericks of Tangier Mrs F R Osborn of Crawfordsville and Messrs James Saxon Claude Ingram of Vermillion County and Heavy Cannon of Green Castle. A lunch of sandwiches pickles coffee and cakes was served.
Mrs Estelle Edmonds of Indianapolis will present an entertainment at the M E church on Tuesday evening March 11 at 8 o clock. Admission is 25 cents for adults and 15 cents for children with proceeds to the M E Parsonage fund.
On the first Wednesday night the lodge awarded the Entered Apprentice degree to Charles Vestal. The ceremony was led by the newly formed tableau Shang, marking a milestone for the lodge and its members.
W. H. Taft is mentioned as ex-president. J W Adams of Hillsdale visits. Various residents move, sell, or start ventures. Clay exhibits in Chicago attract visitors including Joe Burns and Ed Fellows. Local clubs meet, electric bulbs on sale, new roadster discussed, storms disrupt plans, and court-ordered assessments outlined. Several social visits, family gatherings, and farm activity noted.
