Word spread Wednesday evening that Uncle Ben Phillips faced paralysis at the Smith hotel in Dana but by Thursday morning doctors attributed the issue to heart valvular action. Arthur Machin took him home by buggy after he regained some strength, with hopes for a quick recovery and return to the streets soon.
Last Thursday a Pitman family reunion took place at the home of B F Pitman and his wife. Bennie Pitman and family from Clinton Pearl Cox of Atherton Fred Pitman and family and Claude Pitman and wife attended for a bountiful Thanksgiving dinner.
Sarah A Cook died at her daughter Emma Williams home last Tuesday. The body rested until Friday evening and was buried at Oakland cemetery. She leaves three children Tom Cook Emma Williams and Mrs William Carty.
In a shale pit accident William Manley lost part of the index finger on his left hand while coupling clay cars at the works. The injury occurred as he attempted to make a coupling, his hand struck and the finger mangled.
At their regular meeting Wednesday evening the lodge elected officers for the coming year. Worshipful Worshipful Sutton and Warder Myr Myr were named to key posts as part of the annual slate.

A hard fought local basketball game Wednesday night ended 29 to 28 with our team defeating Marshall. The match featured a tense finish and a disputed call by ref Porter, whose conduct drew some wrangling from spectators.
