About fifteen boys in Montezuma express interest in scouting and thirteen meet at the Methodist parsonage for a first hike. They traverse to a creek bank, test fire-making with two matches, bake potatoes, and learn steam when a coffee lid pops off. Scoutmaster R J Hicks leads, with no fees and a claim that over 200000 boys are enrolled nationwide.

Injured Coloma Man Hurt in Train Incident Near Hillsdale
Ed Cox was knocked about by the C. B. L train as it neared Hillsdale. He walked from moving cars after being pushed by a brakeman and suffered cuts and bruises. He was unconscious for several hours but doctors Newhouse and Dooley expect recovery in a few days.

Montezuma Dancing Club Social Draws Twenty-One Couples
The Montezuma Dancing Club held a social at Montgomery hall last Friday night with twenty-one couples dancing, six from out of town. Music was provided by Thomas Ward Kerner of Terre Haute and Harry Barnes and wife of Clinton. They called it the most successful dance in years. Guests Thuraday included Mrs Barnes and Mrs Barnes's mother.

Laverty dies after illness in Terre Haute
G W Laverty died Monday after months of illness at his Terre Haute home. Born April 18 1856 he lived on the Laverty homestead and farmed. He married Elizebath Gunn Sept 27 1877 and had six children Wallace A Mable Irene James Ben Myrtle Alice Permetita E and Harry Glen all living. He joined the Christian Church in 1887 and remained a quiet respected citizen. He is buried at Hixon Cemetery near Mecca following a funeral at two o clock Tuesday.
