Word reached Saturday that Bilmeer Bard was badly injured in an auto wreck on Rockville avenue. His vehicle collided with Henry Grubb’s car as he turned into his driveway. Both cars sustained heavy damage and remained parked until the next day.
Charles A Greathouse state superintendent leads a campaign to reduce fire losses by adding voluntary fire prevention lessons in schools. The department of public instruction is sending a teachers manual with practical strategies and the state fire marshal prepared model lessons to accompany civics for grade pupils.
A funeral service for the family will be held at their residence this Thursday at 3 p.m. The funeral party will depart Friday by rail to Indianapolis for interment at Crown Hill Cemetery.
Early Friday the C H D railroad yards near town were scorched by a large coal dock blaze. Firefighters saved the Geo Mathas & Son feed mill and grain warehouse though the interior burned from top to bottom. The blaze, likely from a passing locomotive, disrupted traffic until morning. The campus plans to rebuild its main coaling station between Decatur and Indianapolis.
The Misses Agnes and Helen McGinty entertained many young friends on Friday evening in honor of cousins Jack and Wade Heavy who leave for Washington D C the next day. At Thursday night’s regular town council meeting plans for a new Town Hall were accepted and the clerk ordered to advertise for bids. The two story hall will measure 22 by 32 feet and use Montezuma brick. The project is a long-awaited improvement and will be funded by the local tax levy.
County commissioners and surveyors in joint session Friday discussed the Wabash bridge grade and approach. They reported survey estimates were close and advertising for bids was ordered, with work to start soon and push toward rapid completion.
The Rosedale Tribune ends after eight years of publication as management moves west to Minnesota. The paper cites economic pressure from the dollar-country market and says the plant will be boxed up and shipped.
Local report tells how Goodsell and his son Oliver laid steel traps around their property to catch a thief targeting their chickens. Friday morning they found a bleated raccoon in a trap, apparently startled during its breakfast raid, ending further poultry thefts.
