Montezuma Boys Win Parke County Track Meet as Champions

Montezuma high school triumphed in the Parke county meet at Rockville last Thursday, earning 25 points to Tangier Bloomingdale’s 18. Winners include Billings in high jump and 440 yard dash, Swaim in the 220, and a Montezuma relay victories with Bloomingdale and Billings. The local team led early but Tangier and Bloomingdale overtook them, finishing with Montezuma as county champions.

Body of Hillsdale man found near trestle

The body of Benjamin H Sheeley, 75, of Hillsdale, missing since April 1, was found last Thursday morning under a trestle between Hillsdale and Montezuma. Believed to be a self inflicted drowning, he was last seen walking the C I & W railroad tracks. Joe Potter located the body, hanging across a tree limb with the lower in water, likely washed there by high waters. He is survived by his widow. Short funeral services and burial followed at Helts Prairie cemetery.

Aged Veteran B. A. Chambers Dead in South Town

B A Chambers, Sixty five to seventy years old Civil War veteran, died early Saturday at home in the southeast part of town after a week long paralysis. Survived by son Charles Chambers of Exeter California, two grandchildren, two sisters and a niece. Funeral held Sunday at 2 30 from Brown Undertaking with Rev J C Whiton and burial in Brewster Kansas beside wife and mother.
