Col. Gobnel George W. Bird, a noted Madison attorney, addressed a Democratic rally at Turner hall despite a cold from a recent rain tumble. Terrible Fire Experience Involving Young Watchman
George Greenwood aged seven son of Joseph Greenwood of Belleville endured a severe fire incident aboard a coal barge between Buthuto and Milwaukee. Relieved at midnight he slept through the blaze until waking amid flames, escaping in an under shirt and barefoot. He sustained extensive burns and was transported to Belleville on a cot for extended hospital care. He had worked in lake service three years on the barge Oinahn.

Self confessed pickpocket George Tein appeared as an alleged arranger for Henry Atkins and Paul Renney in a Monroe circuit court trial for larceny from person. Atkins and Renney denied acquaintance with Tein and claimed origins in Kansas City and Minneapolis respectively. Witnesses testified seeing them at the Lafayette county fair and other locations, while the defense relied on the defendants’ testimony amid cross examination.
