Lady on the Ticket Picks Mary Bullfinch for Schools
The Democratic county committee selected Miss Mary A Bullfinch of Sylvester as candidate for superintendent of schools. Bullfinch, a graduate in science from the state university, taught in country schools and consented to run after the county convention filled the committee vacancy. No candidate named yet for district attorney. Mrs Aubertine Woodward Moore, Madison author and musician, will present The Nibiing Story at the Universalish Church Friday evening October 20.

John W Norton of Monroe County New York died at Penn Yau New York Sunday morning at age 74 He had lived in Wisconsin since 1946 and traveled widely He never remarried after his first wife died in 1853 and was well known and highly respected in the community The body will be brought home to Dayton for burial where his grave was the first in the cemetery

A large crowd attended the funeral for Miss Gertrude Ludlow at 8 o'clock, held at the home of Mr and Mrs Willis Ludlow. Rev George W Case of the M E Church led the service with a quartet singing. The bier was a chest elegant couch with canopy drape and many floral offerings. Six young men served as pallbearers.

Fire destroys Norval Mackey home on East George Street
A fire last evening destroyed the one story home of Norval B. Mackey on East George Street while the family was away. Neighbors alerted by a tied dog in the kitchen aided in rescuing a piano and furniture before firemen arrived with 1200 feet of hose. The home, owned by Wm. Lysaght and uninsured, burned for hours with heavy losses reported as the family returned to find the ruin. The origin is unknown and investigators pursued statements from the Hodges Nalty circuit court case ongoing in session.

Dismissal in Becker Case and Other Court Actions
In Roanoke circuit court on Wednesday Judge 8. F. Dunwiddie dismissed the vane of J. M. Becker amid trial proceedings at Mon roa Water Works. Nine jurors heard opening remarks by Colin W. Wright for the plaintiff and M. G. Jeffries for the defense before motions to dismiss for lack of cause. The court taxed costs against the plaintiff. A divorce action between Tins Zellnow and Ferdinand Zellnow was heard. The Hodges-Nalty case went to a jury with a dozen-question special verdict instruction. Judgments of divorces were granted for Sara Smith from Edward W Smith and Angelia Johnson from John Johnson. The deposition of Thurman Craign was suppressed, and the case of the estate of John Leamiel continued on contestants’ motion.
