At Raiford Florida two men were executed in the electric chair. Paul H Mardorff a Miami printer who killed his wife in 1939 by stabbing her 23 times died at 8 12 am after the pardon board refused clemency. Mack Ransom of Jacksonville killed his son in 1939 died at 8 25 am. Neither spoke.
In six Twin City area accidents over the weekend one person died and ten were injured, two seriously. B C Best, 38, of Simsboro, died at St Francis Sanitarium after his car rear ended a parked truck on highway 80 west of Rayville around 3 am Sunday. Dorothy Smith of Ruston, a passenger, suffered serious injuries including concussions and a broken jaw. Best had a base of skull fracture. Arcadia funeral home handled the body. State police continued their investigation Monday with witness statements naming the occupants of the truck driven by a group of African American men.
The court agreed to review a wage hour dispute over overtime calculation. It centers on whether Dallas News could pay overtime based on an agreed wage above the minimum. The wage-hour administrator warned the New Orleans circuit ruling could largely destroy the act’s intent.

Tornadoes swept through Hamburg in southeastern Arkansas and Dardanelle in the central part near the Arkansas River, killing at least 17 and injuring more than 250.
