Panama Canal Gate Plans Elucidated by Pittsburg Firm
Pittsburg, Oct 26. The McClintick Marshall Construction Company, awarded a 5.4 million dollar contract to fabricate 60,000 tons of structural steel for the Panama Canal Gates, has installed 100,000 dollars worth of machinery and will begin work immediately. Vice President H H McClintick outlined gate specifications: 46 sets of leaves, each gate 65 by 77 feet, weight about 600 tons, with diaphragm construction and air chambers. Ninety-two leaves total, bands of plates and girders, sides sheathed, pintles at the bottom, massive top yokes, with 20 sets at Gatun, 12 at Pedro Miguel, 14 at Miraflores. About half Rankin shop will fabricate the steel.
