Receivers Flournoy and Apgar accuse C S Marsh of conspiracy to defraud amid large security transfers to Bankers Trust Co of St Louis.
Ashdown Arkansas October 25 Henry Pierce a farmer about fifty shot his wife in the head amid fear of a plot after learning of a related assassination. A witness, an aged negro, saw the quarrel and Pierce fire the shot. A mob formed but the prisoner was taken to the woods by a constable to prevent lynching. In London Ethel Clare Len eve was acquitted as accessory after the fact in the murder of Belle Elmore, wife of Dr Hawley Crippen, with the court noting motive and Crippen’s danger. The jury found Len eve not guilty after a brief trial and the crowd pressed to see the proceedings.
Report from Washington cites Prof Joseph H Swinn forecast from Chicago headquarters. East is Democrats surest battle ground with at least twenty Republican districts flipping, plus five in Missouri. Current 391 seats split 217 R, 173 D, vacancies 1. next House expected Democratic majority 28 to 35.
