Police say two men Graham and Mim are in custody over last night's attempted robbery of a Vicksburg Shreveport line train near Rayville Louisiana. Three others named Laperts remain at large as officers continue the hunt following a pistol loaded clash in the baggage car.
A group of five men attempted to rob a train by uncoupling the mail car and forcing access to the express car. After firing into the express car they fled when their plan failed, with no crew injuries reported though shots were exchanged and the robbers used revolvers and rifles. Conductor KE Berkley sent the first telegram about the incident.
Long Branch New Jersey October 33 Optimism marks President Wilsons campaign as he nears election day. People who spoke with him say he is confident of victory. He has two more speeches planned here and three trips before Election Day. Returns may come from Shadow Lawn. He will speak in Cincinnati and visit Buffalo and New York City next week. Alton B Parker aligned with the president today and Jas G Gerard the ambassador to Germany will join him Tuesday.
