London October 24 Viscount Grey warned Allies won t discuss peace terms separately and urged neutral cooperation. The speech at a Foreign Press Association event stressed general wartime aims and urged unity among Allied representatives to secure a lasting peace.

Opelousas La Oct 24 Helaire Carriere slayer of Sheriff Marion L Swords lost his bid for a venue change. The trial began this morning with defense by David Rosenthal of Lake Charles Perrin and Perrin of Jena LaSalle parish and the Perrin firm. Attorneys argued the case at length and the judge ruled last night.
Rayville La Oct 4 A posse led by Maj J W Sanmmertin Calhoun Pr H F Corry and Ry Pritchard captured two men suspected in a V S P passenger train robbery at Rayville. Warrants formed from four buckshot loaded shotguns persuaded the pair to return to Rayville where they are jailed. H H Graham, one suspect, had lived in Rayville months. the other, J D Goss, recently arrived from Tangipahoa parish.
Farmerville La Oct 24 The Doster murder case consumed days last week as Paul George Jee Doster and Abe Tubbs go on trial for killing the girl’s father. The State backs a twenty witness plan while the defense fights for acquittal. Jurors were drawn from distant sections, the crowd large. Tubbs may plead self defense, George and the girl deny seduction charges.
Springfield, Oct. 24. The executive board of the Kinois Federation of Labor states in a telegram that supporting Hughes in the presidential race would be a calamity to the common welfare greater than war. John Walker of the federation sent copy to the Oregon federation after Portland papers published anti Wilson resolutions claiming to come from the Quin cy federation. The board endorses President Gom pers circular on candidates.
New York Oct 24 Democratic National Committee issued a second installment of charges alleging a secret agreement between Charles E Hughes Republican nominee and the American Independence Conference led by Jeremiah A OLeary. The release cites official records and Hughes speeches to claim compliance with demands from OLeary and associates. OLeary defended the interview as transparent, while Willcox dismissed involvement in arranging any meeting. The memo details personnel of the independent organization and their links to Hughes campaign, noting letters and telegrams read at the conference and naming Schmidt as national chairman and OLeary as plans chairman.

San Antonio November 24 All the State troops formerly mobilized for the Mexican border are at their stations or have completed service and returned home. The twelfth division at Camp Wilson Fort Sam Houston now totals about 15000 men with arrivals from Florida Newshire and Virginia. No further state units will be withdrawn from the border and about 100000 militiamen remain on duty in Texas Arizona and New Mexico.
Meridian Mississippi October 23 John W Wood district passenger agent of the Queen and Crescent railroad died in Magnolia cemetery Sunday afternoon after visiting his daughter's grave. While cranking his motor car he collapsed and the vehicle with Mrs Wood and three women friends careened over several graves until a policeman halted it near an embankment amp.
John W Wood, once a Monroe resident and local ticket agent for the W P railway, met death under unusual circumstances. He was known as a courteous, painstaking official popular with travelers and was promoted by the company to district passenger agent based at Meridian.
