In New Jersey yesterday, Theodore Roosevelt and Governor Woodrow Wilson scored decisive wins over President William Howard Taft in the primary contests. The results bolster Roosevelt and Wilson as leading rivals for the party nomination.
In New Jersey primaries Roosevelt swept all 28 delegates with a ten thousand plurality over Taft. Wilson won 24 of 28 delegates, losing Essex county where anti Wilson organizing left him short. Roosevelt and Wilson emerge as clear party favorites with strong margins reported from Newark to the statewide returns.
Newark dispatch notes Taft carried only four counties with small pluralities and strongest support in farming districts. In a factory town he spoke before polls and was beaten forty to one. LaFollette had negligible impact. South Dakota will hold a primary before the convention.
Oyster Bay May 29. Col Roosevelt said the New Jersey result speaks for itself and settles the nomination contest, adding that he would not plan the fall campaign until the bear is dead. He likened politics to hunting and warned against premature celebrations.
The Newark May 28 report shows Theodore Roosevelt leading in New Jersey for delegates with the Taft organization conceding victory in the four delegates at large and ten district delegates from Essex and Hudson counties. Wilson supporters gain strength in Essex County with state at large and most district delegates. final counts awaited as results trickle in across 1799 districts.
Tonight will be generally fair and cooler with mild conditions expected. Thursday follows with similar pleasant weather and cooler temperatures continuing.
Figures show Roosevelt leading with a statewide plurality around 12,000 while Taft and LaFollette totals are 9,220 and 315 respectively. Borden D. Whitting, chairman of the Republican Progressive League, acknowledges Roosevelt's statewide edge.
Havana May 29 General Evaris to Estones rebel leader in Oriente speaks on negro rebellion causes and progress. He cites denial of civil and political rights and the Morua law as offensive to negroes. Estones says it is not racial and troops are ordered not to harm whites. Rebel forces reportedly organize a Havana regiment. Government reports no front news.
The city baseball league was organized at a large meeting at the Board of Trade. Dr G Surghnor was elected president and W J Everett secretary. Teams included the Regulars Athletics Lyceum with Iron Mountain backing a future team. Season opens June 1 with games at Forsythe Park and a July 4 celebration.

Chicago May 29 Wheat prices were steady with gains of a half cent noted in early trading. Corn and other grains showed slight shifts as traders assessed market conditions.
Baton Rouge reports say Representative Labarre introduced a measure to let voters decide on a State racing commission. The bill creates a three member board appointed by the Governor with a four year term and a $1,800 secretary, funding from license fees. Opposition cites constitutional bans on gambling and warns referendum would fail in court. Also noted: a looming $1 million to $2 million bond need and a looming $1,000,000 end of year deficit under Gov. Hall. In politics, Henri L. Gueydan declares headway against Broussard in the Third District race and predicts Broussard's withdrawal once voters see sentiment.
Houston May 28 A solid forty delegate slate aligned with Woodrow Wilson was chosen to attend the national Democratic convention eight at large and thirty-two district delegates. The Harmon faction lost a district contest 542 to 156. Cato Sells of Cleburne was elected national committeeman. The platform and Baltimore delegates were on the agenda as Bailey's influence waned though his allies had sued for ticket support.

Washington May 29 The District of Columbia Democratic convention split over selecting a delegation to Baltimore. Nearly half the delegates walked out and the central committee failed to count votes or issue certificates. The Clark forces held the hall after police restored order.
John D. Rockefeller testified in New York on whether Standard Oil truly dissolved under the Supreme Court decree. He denied evading the ruling amid a probe by Waters-Pierce Oil interests led by Samuel Untermeyer.
