Former Indiana governor Warren T. McCray began a 10 year term at the federal prison in Atlanta after being convicted of using the mails to defraud. Louisiana traveling men from across the state gathered in Shreveport for the thirty second annual convention of the State Travelers Protective Association. Eleven posts were represented and E. B. Smith of Shreveport was named president as the two day session opened with business to begin this afternoon.
C B Morton of Monroe was elected permanent chairman of a state chamber of commerce committee in Baton Rouge to organize the body. S M Collins of Monroe was named secretary. The committee includes at least one representative from each large city to unify Louisiana city chambers and promote state assets and favorable legislation ahead of the full meeting.
Nine girls received life saving medals last year. Irma Koch, 14, Leg Town, Miss, saved a boy who fell from a pier into a river. Evelyn Denham, 15, Memphis, Tenn, saved a woman twice her weight from drowning.
In the third annual Louisiana high school oratorical meet at Centenary College, Gibsland senior James Mays won first place with the speech Supposed speech of John Adams. Avery Evans of Timpson Texas took second with Bill Heywood's trial plea of defense. In Flood of Shreveport finished third with Emmet's defense.
