Hattiesburg Mississippi May 3 R C Reid superintendent of the New Orleans and Northeastern division of the Southern Railway System directed a letter to all employes to set an example by complying with the new Stop Look and Listen law requiring all vehicles to come to a halt at least ten feet before reaching a railroad crossing effective since Thursday.
Natives report Major Frederick L. Martin headed northwest toward Chignik Lakes and the Bering Sea after missing since Wednesday. Search vessels extend to the Aleutian coast as overland parties, dog teams, and air crews continue to scour Chignik and surrounding bays for Martin and his mechanic Staff Sergeant Alva Harvey.
Shreveport May 3. The third death in Louisiana from the recent storms was recorded today when B T Pennington aged 56 succumbed to injuries received near Coushatta Red River parish. Previously reports were received of a child killed in Bienville parish and a man in Sabine parish due to cyclonic disturbances.
A New York court hears Helen Jesmer former Follies member sue for 500000 alleging injuries from a ride with Philip Morgan Plant stepson of U S district attorney William Hayward. The crash left Jesmer blind in one eye and scarred her face.
Major General C. C. Williams testified at the Muscle Shoals hearing that nitrogen fixation for fertilizer remains doubtful. He noted US nitrate imports, ammonium sulfate prices rising to 53 dollars per ton, and acid phosphate dropping to 7.50 dollars per ton, underscoring market uncertainty and risk of heavy losses in fixed production.
Alexandria La May 3 A tick eradication commissioner appointed by the governor was proposed in a resolution adopted by the Louisiana Live Stock Association after a long discussion of the cattle tick question.
Gov Parker rejects accusations that he said if the six condemned men were not lynched he would see they hang. He asserts the law must be observed and the guilty face trial and punishment if proven. The dispute follows a letter from W A Sunday praising Parker. Gulotta says he may seek habeas corpus for five condemned men and will ask federal court for release on claims of an unprejudiced trial.
