Forty-five American rug manufacturers in Tientsin predict their $1,000,000 annual business will end within six months if Japan’s trade restrictions persist. Wool stocks run half a year, 50,000 Chinese workers risk losing jobs, and barriers and exchange controls hinder production and exports.
City police seek a 1934 Chevrolet sedan stolen Wednesday night from Windes Motor Company. The vehicle is black with yellow wheels and remains missing as investigations continue.
The eighth annual outing led by A. Shepard sets sail Friday afternoon with a group of boys in a large car and trailer toward Biloxi Mississippi for a two week stay. They will stay in a furnished apartment and visit Gulfport Ocean Freighter Ship Island quarantine station and the home of Jeff Davis. Participants include Jack Combs Henry Mayo Harry Frazier Thomas Agnew Rex Harmon Harold Monk Layton Coats and Manny Fulsen.
The West Monroe Kiwanis club heard E. B. White discuss commercial tomato raising and shipping at the noon luncheon. S. A. Moss, Kiwanis International delegate to Boston, reported on the Boston convention meetings. A separate Meridian item notes a legend of a murdered inn keeper and hidden gold at Jutson's Lake near Hickory.
In Harrisonburg district court Judge R R Reeves sentenced Babe Battaglia and Lois Gilbert to 60 days in parish jail, fined $500 and costs, with a possible additional year if the fine remains unpaid. Battaglia runs the 40 club on DeSiard Street and Gilbert is his partner. the case involved luring young women into virtual enslavement via an employment ad.
Jim X. Caruthers 23 Bubbles Clayton 25 and Sylvester Williams 20 were executed at Tucker Prison Farm Arkansas for crimes linked to the December 21 1934 Blytheville cemetery killing and a bayou disposal of a farm victim. Williams admitted guilt Clayton claimed innocence. Caruthers confessed on the chair ending a four year legal fight drawing national attention.
A cakewalk will be conducted Friday night at Woods store Inc on Highway 9 about 11 miles west of Monroe. Proceeds will go to a fund for Liberty Baptist church. The public is invited to participate.
In Erse Pa June, Hershey won a final decree after nearly two decades of litigation. The 56 year old farmer filed suit in 1919 against William L Hershey, now 47 in Toledo Ohio, accusing nagging and broom strikes. Judge McCracken noted funds ran out and proceedings paused until recently, when papers were finalized.
