Alabama Judge Blocks Federal Access to Voting Records
In a major clash over federal power, Circuit Court Judge Walter B. Jones ordered the Justice Department to halt access to Alabama voter registration files across all 67 counties. The temporary injunction, urged by State Attorney General MacDonald Gallion, delays permanent action as a court test of the 1960 Civil Rights Act looms. FBI access briefly occurred in Sumter County before the injunction.
