Acreage Cut Topic Stirs Louisiana Cotton Conference
More than 100 parish agents teachers and committee members met in Monroe for the first sectional conference on continuing voluntary acreage control and Bankhead act measures in Louisiana. J W Bateman LSU extension director presided with E D White and Roy L Davenport from the Agricultural Adjustment Administration discussing the program and Bankhead act provisions. The group agreed full backing of the Bankhead law would boost effectiveness while noting non cooperators could limit gains. The Bankhead plan aims to tax excess cotton ginned above ten million bales with a five cent per pound rate or 50 percent of sale value if price exceeds ten cents. The operation is to begin June 1 this year and run at least two years, contingent on two thirds of cotton producers voting to continue before June 1, 1935.
