The agriculture department warns drouth will cut national wheat feed grains and hay output though rains end the drought in Maine. President Roosevelt awaits rain benefits while Ohio experts call crop damage exaggerated and a weekly shower would aid crops.
Dry areas expand toward New England as rains reach the Midwest yet come too late to save wheat. Officials say showers will help corn and pastures and may cool the drought. Maine faces garden and hay losses while Minnesota and upper Michigan expect cooler temps with little rain.
Honor cadet Charles F. Tank of Syracuse New York is the honor man of the West Point 1934 graduating class. Tank and seven others with four year averages above 92 percent are named distinguished graduates.
The News-Star reports the first Delphos cotton bloom of the season, planted March 20, found by R. O. Thompson of Gilbert on the Jackson place. Crops delayed by cool spring weather across north Louisiana. In Ouachita parish election turnout was under 500 of 5,090 property owners, enough to sustain parish road funding for five more years. The Republican national committee unveiled a four page platform for the fair elections. It pledges liberal and progressive attitudes while fighting government domination. A U S house committee heard that Henry Ford's name was used without authorization on the anti Jewish book Der Internationale Jude The International Jew published in Germany this year. The committee also learned Nazi propaganda is circulating in the United States via Friends of New Germany. Ford's 1927 letter to Theodor Fritsch was shown in evidence.
In New Orleans a mass meeting at the municipal auditorium will voice protest against additional state taxes and enactment of objectionable measures. The gathering, called by 300 business leaders, will feature several speakers addressing the audience.
Washington June 6 Secretary Swanson approves plans for 24 ships to be built under the Vinson act authorizing naval construction to treaty strength.
President Roosevelt signed a law to tighten federal regulation of stock exchanges and relax some Securities Act provisions. A new commission will regulate exchanges and enforce the act, curbing manipulative practices and floor trading while requiring corporations to register and disclose complete data on organization and finances.

Ouachita parish police jury adopts several resolutions condemning proposed state measures. They oppose a state constabulary bill, a state budgeting bill, and motor vehicle regulation, arguing they curb local self government and raise taxes. All resolutions are unanimous and request copies to lawmakers.
About 500 gray clad Confederate veterans opened their forty fourth reunion in Chattanooga pledging loyalty to President Roosevelt. Leaders rejected a joint 1935 reunion with Grand Army of the Republic and said reunions stay within Confederate state boundaries.
