Plan To Seek Deeper Ouachita Channel At Camden
A joint campaign will be planned at a Tuesday El Dorado conference by the Chamber of Commerce navigation committee and Arkansas city representatives to win war department approval for deepening the Ouachita river channel from six to nine feet to Camden Arkansas. The effort follows a 1939 push for new locks and a survey filed June 1 with the War Department to assess economic feasibility and potential postwar funding. The committee hopes the improved channel will reach Monroe and possibly Felsenthal, though no funds are expected soon. Members include Gordon Wright, Fred Millsaps, H A McDonald, Gene Daspit, Clyde Paine, F Strauss, F N Thompson, G B Anderson, and M S Biedenharn.
